Spring break is a great time to enjoy the newly warm weather and enjoy a break from our busy lives. You don’t want to worry about any orthodontic problems during spring break, do you? Well, our orthodontist, Dr. Samuel Richey, is happy to help you avoid those issues and have the successful spring break you want. To have a good spring break with your braces, he encourages you to do the following things:
-Pack your oral hygiene kit: Oral hygiene is essential when taking care of your braces and smile. Your kit should include your toothbrush, toothpaste, interdental toothbrush, floss, floss threaders, orthodontic wax (if you need to cover a piece of the appliance that is bothering you) and more. Make sure to clean your braces and smile often while you’re out and about.
-Pack your mouthguard: Your mouthguard can help you prevent damage to your braces and smile when you participate in high-contact activities. In fact, it can help you avoid broken brackets as well as broken and knocked-out teeth. So, make sure to pack and wear your mouthguard.
-Avoid chewy and sticky foods: These foods are very harmful to the braces and the smile. This is because they pull the brackets off the teeth and cling to the braces and promote dental issues, like cavities. So, it’s best to avoid these foods and stick to more braces-friendly foods.
