How to Treat Tooth Sensitivity

Posted .

Do you have sensitive teeth? If so, you are likely looking for a way to relieve the sensitivity. You’re not alone. Many people find sensitivity to be annoying, painful, and quite inconvenient. To find the best results possible, it’s best to treat the cause of the sensitivity rather than the symptoms. To help you do so, our dentist, Dr. Samuel Richey, is happy to give you some tips and recommendations. You can do the following things:

-Strengthen your tooth enamel (You can do so by using fluoride oral hygiene products and by receiving a professional fluoride treatment.)

-Keep up on oral hygiene (Make sure to brush, floss, rinse and attend your checkups regularly.)

-Talk to your dentist about a mouthguard (If your sensitivity is caused by teeth grinding, a mouthguard can help you.)

-Skip the whitening treatment (Sometimes whitening treatments, especially over-the-counter treatments cause or increase sensitivity.)

-Use desensitizing toothpaste (This type of toothpaste is meant to close the channels in the teeth that lead to the tooth nerves.)

-Schedule an appointment with your dentist (If these treatments don’t give you the relief you seek, it’s best to visit our office to identify the underlying cause and to treat the problem.)
